Richard Gomez Talks About His Advocacy on AED at the Philippine Heart Association's 50th Convention

The Philippine Heart Association (PHA), during its recently concluded 50^th Annual Scientific Meeting and Convention once again called on the government to increase awareness and training on cardiopulmonary resuscitation [hands only CPR] as well as the automated external defibrillator [AED] as a way to save the lives of persons with heart disease.

 One challenge with saving victims of cardiac arrest is that there is often a lag before bystanders take action.

Last Saturday, June 8, 2019, veteran actor Eddie Garcia was at taping when he suffered from a severe heart attack. He is still under critical observation and all his doctors are doing their best to assure he gets the best care possible. At 90 years old, he is still doing what he loves most, acting. He is a pillar of the entertainment industry and is very passionate about his craft. If there was someone who knew CPR and there was an AED machine, then maybe Garcia won't end up being in coma by this time.

Prior to Garcia’s heart attack, during the PHA advocacy hour, it was mentioned by former actor and recently re-elected Ormoc City Mayor and AED advocate Richard Gomez how the entertainment industry also needed AEDs especially during long-night tapings and shootings.

Re-elected Senator Cynthia Villar welcomes everyone to the Las Pinas 6th Food Festival

Newly re-elected Senator Cynthia Villar recently led the celebration of the 6th Las Pinas Food Festival as thousands troop to the Villar SIPAG hall in Pulang Lupa Uno to join the festivities.

Villar, is the managing Director of the Villar Social Institute for Poverty Alleviation and Governance (Villar SIPAG), welcomed visitors and participants to the yearly event which “showcase the city’s culinary heritage and Laspineros’ world-class cooking skills.”

“We are very glad that this food Festival has become a yearly event for the City and nearby areas not only to promote our local delicacy, but also to promote our advocacy for safe and nutritious food,” Villar said

Senator Villar was also joined by her daughter, Las Pinas Congresswoman-elect Camille Villar during the celebration.

As part of the food festival, a cooking competition was held participated in by the city’s 20 barangays. Each team presented one viand/ulam and one dessert expressing this year's theme which was “Cook Healthy, Eat Happy.”

The campaign tarpaulins used by reelected Senator Cynthia Villar have been become a source of livelihood by the residents of Dasmariñas, Cavite. The tarps were recycled into eco bags to provide livelihood to the women of Dasmariñas. During the 90-day campaign period, the Comelec encouraged candidates to use recyclable and environment-friendly materials in campaign paraphernalia.
