Project Hulmahan is now on exhibit at the Grand Lobby of The Manila Hotel |
Project Hulmahan will be on display at The Manila Hotel's Grand Lobby and Art Gallery from May 8 to May 20. The art exhibit includes sculptures, paintings, and mixed media pieces created with shoe molds by both established and rising artists who share a desire for assisting others via their art.
"We looked for volunteer artists by publicly posting on Facebook who were willing to paint or make any kind of art out of hulmahan [shoe molds] that are no longer being used because the pandemic hit the struggling shoe industry in Marikina, the Shoe Capital of the Philippines," Bernardo explains. Hundreds of artists from all across the Philippines responded positively to the appeal for volunteers. Rachy Cuna, creative consultant at The Manila Hotel, National Artists Maestro Ryan Cayabyab, Kidlat Tahimik, sculptors Pete Jimenez and Jonathan Dangue, Julie Lluch-Dalena, and actor Dolly De Leon are among the artists whose works are on display in Project Hulmahan.
Zena Bernardo, a member of Ladies Who Launch (LWL) and one of the co-founders of Bayanihang Marikenyo at Marikenya, created Project Hulmahan. Ms. Bernardo visited with shuttered shoe manufacturers in Marikina, and their group purchased about 500 pairs of shoe molds with the purpose of repurposing them into artworks to raise funding for community-based activities.

Your smile says a lot about who you are. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), dental health is critical to long-term welfare and quality of life. It's an often-overlooked fact that the mouth is a gateway to general wellness. It's where both nourishment and sickness enter the body, thus it needs special attention. Keeping your mouth, teeth, and oral microbiome healthy is essential for feeling safe. Having a healthy and joyful grin is also vital for developing self-confidence since it allows you to engage with others without feeling awkward or hesitant.
This is why practicing good oral hygiene, such as brushing and flossing every day, is essential for keeping our mouths (and smiles) healthy. Good dental hygiene can also assist to prevent problems such as cavities and gum disease. and bad breath by balancing the bacteria in our mouths and keeping the harmful ones in check. Without a consistent daily regimen, dental issues are more likely to contribute to more serious health issues, problems associated to cardiovascular and respiratory health.
Glister, the popular dental care brand of entrepreneur-led health and wellness company Amway, is advocating a 3-Step Oral Care System that’s designed to gently clean teeth, freshen breath, and keep gums healthy—all without disrupting the delicate oral microbiome.
The first step to this oral care system is Glister Multi-Action Toothpaste, the top selling Amway product for the past 25 years. It can gently and effectively prevent cavities, remove plaque, and reduce staining on teeth enamel for a whiter, brighter smile. Like all the other Glister formulas, this toothpaste boasts of plant- and naturally derived ingredients, including natural silica that gently polishes teeth and traceable Nutrilite-grown peppermint—a significant step the brand takes to ensure each product is safe and effective.
It also includes Reminact technology, which helps remineralize vital minerals back onto the enamel, strengthening the teeth and making them more resistant to decay. Glister toothpaste also contains just the correct quantity of fluoride to counteract the demineralization effect of acid generated in plaque on the teeth and protect them further from cavities. To ensure everyone's comfort, It is also free of alcohol, parabens, and animal-derived substances.
Glister Multi-Action Toothbrush in soft and medium bristles is available to supplement this phase. Each is designed with an in-mold technique that allows for a thinner head, allowing for greater flexibility, more effective cleaning of hard-to-reach spots and with an integrated tongue/cheek cleaner.
This month of May, The Manila Hotel honors all mothers with a variety of activities and delectable offers, including an exhibit by Project Hulmahan for art enthusiasts, an intimate tote bag painting session for the creative ones, and the sweetest of treats for chocoholics. This month, the Grand Dame wants to make moms feel extra special.

Gone are the days when people used to take plastic bags for their everyday shopping. People are now getting aware of how plastic bags harm the environment and wildlife. I live in Quezon City where in 2012, they established the city ordinance regulating the use of plastic bags and establishing an environmental fee for its use known as the "Plastic Bag Reduction Ordinance."
Single-use plastic is one of the primary contributors to the environment's rapid degradation. It has been disposed of indiscriminately in environmentally sensitive sites such as streams and landfills, among others, despite having virtually no recyclable purposes. The biggest concern in Quezon City was the carelessly dumped plastic bags. While they represented a missed chance to recover, reuse, and recycle plastic, they also negatively influenced the city's waste stream, leading to various environmental nuisances.
Since summer is here and the ocean, as well as the beach, are calling us out. Recycle Now’s Julie Brown once said: “Summer is one of the busier times of year for waste collection services, particularly for metal cans, plastic and glass bottles, and garden waste, it becomes the season of waste." The unpredictable weather means many people leave their grocery planning and shopping to the last minute, but hurried menu planning, last-minute choices, and worries about providing enough for everyone to eat can lead to over catering and increased waste. While it’s tempting to pack disposable products, buying reusable ones could save you money which you can enjoy spending on extra treats. The disposable way of life also costs more in the end, with both bank balances and the environment taking the strain.

Sadly, plastic bags are being thrown into the ocean |
The Marketplace's Pure Imagineocean eco-bag helps preserve the Philippine seas from plastic pollution by allowing you to carry everything you need! These bags provide a clean, safe, and eco-friendly alternative to plastic bags. The Marketplace's Pure Imagineocean eco bags reduce the need for single-use plastic bags, which have been shown to harm the environment. Plastic bags, which are made of petroleum, contribute to the extraction of fossil resources. They also pose a significant disposal issue. Plastic bags take generations to degrade in nature, burning them emits harmful chemicals, and plastic rubbish hurts a variety of marine animals in the oceans.
