Coca-Cola rolls out first electric truck to power sustainable logistics

Coca-Cola Europacific Aboitiz Philippines (CCEAP), the official bottling partner and distributor of Coca-Cola products in the country, has officially launched its first fully electric truck. This milestone marks a significant step in the company’s journey toward cleaner, more sustainable logistics, and environmental stewardship.

The electric truck is stationed at CCEAP’s Sta. Rosa Plant in Laguna and will serve delivery routes in and around the area on a significantly reduced carbon footprint. The zero-emission tractor-trailer, developed by BYD Cars Philippines, is supported by an on-site charging station to ensure efficient operations. Powered by a 355 kWh battery and a range of up to 200 kilometers, the fully electric truck enables an estimated annual avoidance of 54,000 kg of CO₂ emissions compared to a diesel truck.

“At CCEAP, we remain committed to delivering our refreshing beverages to more people, in a more sustainable and energy-efficient way,” said Gareth McGeown, CEO of Coca-Cola Europacific Aboitiz Philippines. “We always grow our business the right way as we contribute to a cleaner future for the communities we serve. All our 18 manufacturing plants employ clean energy initiatives and world-class technologies to ensure that every product that reaches our customers is made with the highest sustainability and quality standards.”

CCEAP operates one of the largest truck fleets in the country, with over 3,500 trucks and more than 2,000 sales service vehicles, delivering Coca-Cola’s iconic beverages to over 1 million micro-retailers and about 6,000 key customers nationwide.

“We recognize the critical role that our logistics operations play in supporting all our customers and achieving an even more sustainable supply chain for our business,” said Frank Garcia, Supply Chain Vice President of CCEAP. "As we launch our first electric truck, we continue to drive our long-term strategy of incorporating clean energy into our operations through smart mobility initiatives.”

This commitment to sustainability through environmentally friendly logistics aligns with parent company Coca-Cola Europacific Partners’ (CCEP) global commitment to decarbonize its business. CCEP’s climate targets, validated by the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi), include reducing absolute greenhouse gas emissions by 30% by 2030 (vs. 2019) and achieving net zero emissions by 2040.

Reinforcing its commitment to renewable energy and sustainable operations, CCEAP has installed over 23,000 solar panels across its plants nationwide in recent years, including in its Sta. Rosa Plant where the electric truck is stationed.

The Sta. Rosa Plant, in particular, has received multiple accolades for its sustainability initiatives, including being the three-time recipient of the GREEN Award from the City of Sta. Rosa. These honors, from local government and the communities it serves, highlight the company’s ongoing efforts in clean energy adoption, as well as in water stewardship.

Coca-Cola Europacific Aboitiz Philippines (CCEAP) was joined by Vice Mayor Arnold Arcillas of the City of Sta. Rosa – affirming its solid partnership and shared commitment to sustainability, community development, and environmental stewardship through clean energy initiatives and responsible supply chain practices. Rosa; Haulage Service Representative Ricky Distura; Frank Garcia, Supply Chain Vice President; Ann Margaret Santiago, People Vice President.

With its vast footprint and long-standing history in the country, Coca-Cola Europacific Aboitiz Philippines continues to advance its initiatives across clean energy, water use efficiency, sustainable packaging, and packaging recovery and recycling—as it uplifts its people and the communities that have welcomed it, by ensuring that every step of its operations contributes to a better shared future.

Tetra Pak sustainability reporting reaches 21-year landmark

Press Release:

Tetra Pak has published the company’s 2019 Sustainability Report online, marking 21 years of sustainability reporting.
Over the past two decades, the company’s approach to sustainability reporting has evolved significantly, from focusing on environmental commitments and actions in the first report in 1999 to evaluating every part of the business and its impact, including societal and supplier governance. Adopting a mix of self-assessment to aligning with Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) guidelines, as well as supporting the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through a process called materiality assessment to ensure the company can make the biggest possible impact.
In this year’s report highlights, find more about:
-       Tetra Pak sustainable packaging portfolio strategy and the $90.5 million investment in development of paper straws, tethered caps, and other solutions that replace fossil-fuel based plastics straws from 2019 to 2021.
-       How the company is on track with meeting its 2020 carbon emissions reduction ambitions, by saving a cumulative total of 10 million tons CO2 equivalent since 2010 across the value chain.

-       The company’s commitment to the Ellen MacArthur Foundation New Plastics Economy

Driving a Low Carbon Circular Economy
In Malaysia, Singapore and Philippines, much have been done to drive a low carbon circular economy. In 2018, 592 million packs of Used Beverage Cartons (UBCs), which are equivalent to 8,453 tons have been collected and recycled. Tetra Pak works with recycling facilities such as SHA Paper Mill and KPT Recycle Sdn Bhd in Malaysia and Rural Industrial Corporation in the Philippines, all of which have a combined recycling capacity of 23,000 tons per year.

As part of Tetra Pak’s efforts to drive low carbon circular economy, responsible sourcing plays an important part as well. 100% of packaging materials used in Tetra Pak packages are sourced from Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®)-certified forests and other controlled sources.

Tetra Pak Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines & Indonesia, Managing Director, Michael Wu says: ‘Sustainability has always been at the core of our promise to protect food, people and futures, we are continuously working to achieve minimum climate impact across the whole value chain; and we understand the importance of long term collaboration with our partners such as waste collector, recyclers, customers, government, communities and other stakeholders to succeed in our ambition of a low-carbon circular economy.’

NESTLE Philippines launches the very first Ready-to-Drink Subscription Service in the Country that helps upcycle used beverage cartons

NESTLE's Well-loved baon RTD  drinks available on subscription service

Parents, particularly moms would always want to make sure that our kids get the best school baon possible. For us, it has to be something nutritious and delicious that our kids will love. They need baon for sustenance especially since based on research, kids who eat well does well in class. I recently attended a press conference where NESTLE Philippines launched the very first subscription service in the Philippines. This was made possible by providing children with healthy and nutritious on-the-go beverages, and through the subscription service allows consumers to return their used beverage cartons through NESTLE’s partner upcycling facility—the Tetra Pak, thereby extending their useful life.

Some of our most favorite drinks from NESTLE

NESTLE aims every household to become a partner in raising a healthier and more sustainable future for kids. This sustainability project initiative from our friends from NESTLE is such a good example for other companies to follow as well. As a parent, it’s nice to know that a subscription is like hitting two birds with one stone: making sure that your family has stocks of their favorite ready-to-drink [RTD] through the subscription service and doing your part in helping the environment by the Tetra Pak upcycle and reuse project.

Unilever, Smart, Cebuana Lhuillier Shared a Mission for Environmental Sustainability

When I started participating in Surf's sachet recovery program two years ago, I actually had no idea where does Cebuana Lhuillier send those used Surf sachets in exchange for free Smart load credits. I had only understood its mission when I had been invited to the Sachet Recovery program's activity recently. It turned out that the three industry giants--Unilever, through its number one laundry brand, Surf, Smart Communications and Cebuana Lhuillier had come together to renew their commitment to champion environmental sustainability. With a mission to help improve the lives of many Filipinos, the three industry giants converged for this Sachet Recovery program project (which is now on their 3rd year)--an easy, convenient and rewarding program that educates more consumers about recycling and waste management.
