CCP CELEBRATES 40th NATIONAL CHILDREN'S BOOK DAY

THE Cultural Center of the Philippines, in collaboration with the Philippine Board on Books for Young People (PBBY), will celebrate National Children's Book Day (NCBD) on July 18, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Tanghalang Ignacio Gimenez (CCP Black Box Theater).

The event, now in its 40th year, commemorates the anniversary of the publication of Jose Rizal's "The Monkey and the Turtle" in the July 1889 issue of Trubner's Oriental Record in London.

The theme for this year's event is "Basa, Bayan, Bukas" The program includes a showcase of new children's books, a keynote speech by Mighty Magulang/Mona Veluz, a musical performance by Kabataang Gitarista, the awarding of the 2023 PBBY-Salanga, and other activities.

PBBY-Alcala Prizes, art exhibit opening, screening of Himig Himbing movies from the CCP Arts Education Department, discussions, art exhibit tour with artist Jomar Galutera, and storytelling with games, among other activities.

The CCP and PBBY focus on recognizing the best work of children's book writers, illustrators, and publishers, in addition to advocating the value of cultivating young readers' curiosity and inventiveness.
The event is made possible by CCP's vision (Art matters in the lives of every Filipino) and mission to be the leading arts and culture institution in the Philippines by promoting artistic excellence and encouraging the broadest public to participate in art.

Interested people are encouraged to bring any type of children's book for donation. It will be used as one person's admission ticket to the venue. The gathered books will be handed to the Philippine Girl Scouts.
