2016 National Women's Month: Women Empowerment--"We're no longer justthe opposite of being a man."

In the past, women were treated as mere slaves, they were not even entitled to education. As they belong to the weaker sex, men used to keep them under their thumb. They were denied freedom. They wee kept like dumb cattle within the four walls of the house. Indeed, they had no rights. Their most sacred duty was to obey blindly.

It was a relief that the conditions in the country are fast changing, thanks to modernization. Nowadays, more moms aren't simply confined as homemakers. Instead, they juggle both being a mom 24/7 while being career driven working as professionals. Multi-tasking isn't easy, that's why I am hats-off to those women who can do such things. Those changes are beneficial which come gradually. Our country is changing politically, economically and socially, at a swift speed. Women now play their vital roles in the development of the country.  No distinction is now made in matters of education between men and women. Women take an active part in the community. They are becoming equal partners in the making, or the dismissing, of a government.

Send Secret Messages via Veems’ Free “Secret SMS” Feature

We Filipinos are known for our nonconfrontational nature. Often, we don’t say how we truly feelwhether we have a crush on someone or if we’re upset with a coworker. Keeping our emotions to ourselves can have negative effects. It can cause stress and tension in our personal and professional relationships.

That’s why Veems,Pinoy’s new favorite social app, released a new feature that allows people to express their feelings easily. How? You can do it via the “Secret SMS” feature on Veems. The feature allows users to send free anonymous SMS to anyone in their phone’s contact, even if they are not on Veems.

The catch? Users can only send preloaded messages. The messages are categorized according to people’s most common emotions: miss, upset, regret, and of course, love. For example, if you have a crush on someone at work, you can secretly send, “I can’t wait to see you at work.” Or if you admire someone and you’re quite shy to tell them in person, you can send, “You inspire me.”

The Significance of the People Power EDSA Revolution 30 Years After

I was very young when the 1986 EDSA Revolution happened. Seeing all the choppers and military tanks were rather vivid memories for my five-year-old self. I could still recall how I wanted to have that cute bespectacled Cory Aquino doll in matching yellow blouse and skirt. But I guess I was too young to understand everything that's happening at that tender age. I also remembered seeing people from all walks of life with a "Laban" sign on their fingers and hearing them chant: "Tama na, Sobra na, Palitan na." And the lovely exchange of flowers and rosaries between the military, the nuns and priests. But to the millennials, how significant is the People Power Revolution to the youth nowadays? Is it still perceived as an important part of Philippine history or simply a day to look forward to because it's always considered a "holiday" and therefore it means, "no classes or work" for many?

As we celebrate the 30th anniversary of the People Power Revolution today, let us all remember how our fellowmen fought for our freedom and justice back then. EDSA People Power was a bloodless revolution held on the long stretch of Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (That was 54 kilometers!) with corresponding movements elsewhere in the country. EDSA was the venue where Filipinos showed the world that a peaceful demonstration was indeed possible.  It was a day that gathered all Filipinos in unity with courage and faith to prevail democracy in the country. It was the power of the people, who assembled in EDSA, that restored the democratic Philippines, ending the oppressive Marcos regime. Hence, it came to be known as the EDSA People Power’s Revolution.

It all happened on February 25, 1986, and it has marked a significant national event that has been engraved in the hearts and minds of every Filipino. This part of Philippine history gives us a strong sense of pride especially that other nations had attempted to emulate what we have shown the world of the true power of democracy. The true empowerment of democracy was exhibited in EDSA by its successful efforts to oust a tyrant by a demonstration without tolerance for violence and bloodshed. Prayers and rosaries strengthened by faith were the only weapons that the Filipinos used to recover their freedom from President Ferdinand Marcos’s iron hands. Thousands of Filipinos, armed only with courage, faith, and resolve, congregated in the streets to protest the untenable environment created by Martial Law and demand that President Ferdinand Marcos step down.

Certain events had been building up to this particular milestone in our nation’s history. Although all these stuff may not mean much to the youngsters of today, as all these can only be learned through required Philippine history textbooks, EDSA People Power Revolution was truly a huge part of who we are as Filipinos. Here’s a bit of a backgrounder:

Marcos’s term as president, especially after the promulgation of Martial Law in 1972, was characterized by widespread repression of rights, the lack of freedom of speech, and the President’s manipulation of the government’s legislative, judicial, and military arms. All these indications of oppression and tyranny climaxed in 1983, when Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino —a politician who was well-loved by the people and who posed a threat to the President’s regime— was assassinated upon arriving in the country after a self-imposed exile.

However, February 22, 1986, signified the end of a people’s tolerance of this widespread abuse of power, as well as the beginning of a united struggle for concrete political change. It was clear that the Filipino people, having suffered under Marcos’s reign for 20 years, were no longer going to allow themselves to be subjected to despotism and the curtailment of their liberty.

The civilians comprising the multitudes in EDSA gave one another aid, support, and protection as they carried out peaceful demonstrations and faced the incoming military forces deployed by the President. People held prayer vigils, rallies, and processions and joined in unified cries of dissent against Marcos’s authoritarianism.

This peaceful revolution lasted three days. On February 25, 1986, our nation finally saw the end of 14 years under a cruel dictatorship: the president and his family fled to Hawaii, and Corazon Aquino, Ninoy’s widow, became the country’s new president.

Despite the EDSA revolution, the democratic political system of the Philippines is still fragile and flawed. Patronage politics still hinders the development of democracy and resources are still at the hands of the few. However, the fall of Marcos and the collapse of the Communist movements has discouraged non-democratic alternatives to politics. The revolution also provided the restoration of democratic institutions after thirteen years of authoritarian rule. These institutions can be used by political and social actors to challenge the entrenched political clans and develop Philippine democracy.

While the EDSA Revolution is almost universally acknowledged as a great example of democracy at work, many political scientists and sociologists have commented that the Philippines has largely failed to actualize the possible gains from a fresh change in government, including the new constitution. Among the conditions cited are the overall slow growth of the Philippine economy, especially compared to that of other nearby Southeast Asian countries, the essentially unchanged political atmosphere in the country, and the general feeling of worsening living conditions, especially among the poor sectors of society.

Thirty years later—and for decades after, our nation still recognizes the significance of that particular period in our history. Today, as we celebrate the anniversary of the EDSA Revolution, may the statues (People Power Monument and Our Lady of Peace) of political freedom serves as an eye opener and a reminder that we shouldn't allow ourselves to be abused by a politician's power. May EDSA People Power's glorifying demonstration continue to strengthen the meaning of democracy and may it also serve as a reminder that this upcoming elections, the future of our beloved country will rely upon our bloody hands. Everything depends upon who we will entrust our dear country to as its prime leader. Think wisely before you cast your vote. Bear in mind that each vote will help restore the democratic institutions of government. If you were to ask me, I will stick with #BayangMatuwid. I'd still go with Liberal Party standard-bearer Mar Roxas and his Vice-Presidentiable Leni Robredo.

In honoring the memory of the 1986 People Power Revolution, all of us are called to work for a lot of things, one is to do the right thing by our conscience, our fellow human beings, and our country. Roxas, just like the late President Corazon Aquino is a man of integrity. He rightfully deserves to become the next Philippine President. And we could all sleep soundly because he's a God-fearing man, we're sure we will be in good hands--hindi siya magnanakaw sa kaban ng bayan.

Why are jobs and professional work the most important factors in the election? #MarWithAPlan

With less than three months to go before the 2016 Presidential elections, we took a detailed look at each candidates by examining their positions and suggesting developments likely to arise before the voting takes place. Watching the recent presidential debate on national TV somehow had given us an idea more or less on the kind of government we'd have should they win. One topic which piqued my interest was about employment. When voters ask about the candidates' priorities, employment is always at or near the top of the list.

Employment rates have dropped judging by the percentage of graduates who already have professional jobs. Gone are the days when acquiring a college diploma is enough passport to land you a good paying job. Truth to be told, there are a lot of graduates who weren't able to secure a job into is bleak economy, although some lucky souls may do find jobs but many short-term, precarious and unable to support their families. There were summer employment programs that tailor policy directed at young people. But it seems that the emerging generation of young adults will end up poorer than their parents if it won't be properly addressed by the next government. And this is just one of the many stuff that the next president must be able to work on.

Why Should We Vote for Mar Roxas?

Liberal Party Presidential Candidate former DILG Secretary Mar Roxas

Business Processing Outsource or BPO’s [that’s also known as ‘call center’ for most people] is one of the most lucrative and fastest growing industries in the country today . There is no denying its major role in providing quality jobs and encouraging economic activity and investment even in areas outside Metro Manila.  But have you ever wondered how these BPOs opened doors of opportunities for a lot of Filipinos? So how does it all connects to Liberal Party Presidential candidate Mar Roxas

Maintain Pearly White Teeth with Amway's Glister Dental Line

Amway's Glister Oral Hygiene and dental line
I've always been very particular with my oral hygiene. For someone who does not have a sweet tooth, I like keeping my teeth and gums healthy. I knew how my mom spent a fortune on my braces and maintenance as a teenager. So as much as I can, I try to choose the best products for my pearly whites and other oral hygiene needs. I believe that choosing the right products help in maintaining a good oral hygiene. And since February is also the Dental Health Month, allow me to share with you one of the latest products I have tried and discovered recently.

Contrary to what others may seem to believe but dental health is actually a very important health issue especially because not everyone realizes that poor dental health is linked to something more than superficial. Research has linked poor dental health to several other diseases from migraines, respiratory infection and even some cardiovascular vascular conditions.

Peppermint Sugar Scrub by Amethy Product Review

Sugar Scrub in Peppermint by Amethy

Mother nature has a cure for almost everything, and many beauty brands are keeping their ingredients list as close to the Earth as possible. Using only certified organic ingredients can be limiting, so not all brands can go that far, but you can take comfort in knowing that Sugar Scrubs by Amethy in particular is one skincare line made of organic and natural ingredients. As consumers become more conscious of ingredient lists and environmental impact, they're increasingly turning toward natural products—even within chemical-heavy beauty aisles. If you want to make the switch to organic or simply to less artificial lotions, cleansers, and creams, this particular brand is one of the best natural skincare lines in the industry. Honestly though, it’s what they don’t use that really counts: Fillers, Parabens, or additives.

I love this rich, moisturizing peppermint sugar body scrub. Unfortunately, exfoliating in the shower can take circus-like stability to avoid slipping on the layer of oil that many body scrubs leave all over the tub. That's why an excellent scrub must have great balance, too: the right ratio of skin-sloughing and moisturizing elements and an amazing fragrance that's not too strong, is energizing, and still relaxing enough to feel like you've stepped into a luxury spa. Sound like a tall order? Fortunately, Sugar Scrubs by Amethy made the cut.
