FamilyMart PH opens at West Aeropark Clark Pampanga

FamilyMart welcomes guests at West AeroPark in Clark, Pampanga

FamilyMart PH recently opened its 68th branch and their second generation store in the growing development of Clark Global City. There is indeed no doubt the invasion and rapid expansion of the modern day convenience store is now running rampant in the Philippines.

It has long been predicted that convenience stores would be the next phase of modern retail growth in the Philippines and judging by the retail brands now springing up like plants in well-watered garden, the scramble for market presence is well and truly underway.

As new convenience store players establish their position in the market, the speed of outlets popping up across the retail landscape will accelerate as each plays a game of catch up, or at least, to get to the number of outlets required to offset operational costs.

FamilyMart executives cheers to a first bite of their FamiChicky

FamilyMart raced onto the retail scene in 2013 and it was operating a lot of stores within two years and has indicated it aims to open 60-70 stores per year. FamilyMart West Aeropark sports a revamped look and vibe from the usual branch. Tagged as the "Generation 2"store, it follows the interior design of its international counterparts (but it will soon be rolled out in all their other branches as well.) We were lucky to interview Mr. Roald Yap, FamilyMart's General Manager while we were there. He warmly welcomed us as he proudly showed us around the new FamilyMart store.

This particular FamilyMart store is composed of different sections which features both imported and local brands as well as an aisle that has products from the different provinces in the Philippines. It's a great way to just grab pasalubong (items we Filipinos would usually bring home to our families and friends) from FamilyMart sans the hassle.

Amway's MIYU Skincare Celebrates 1st Anniversary in the Philippines

Korean glass skin is definitely the ïn thing"on skincare these days. One thing about Koreans that is definitely noticeable would have to be their clear, radiant and almost poreless skin. No wonder, Korean products have become very much in demand both online shops as well as physical stores in the country these days. But in as much as most of us would like to copy the exact DNA of Koreans, Filipinos have very different skin tones compared to our Asian counterpart.

Luckily, Amway Philippines launched the Korean Skincare product line called MIYU last year. MIYU means "beauty within you." Filipinos need not fly to Korea to purchase authentic Korean skincare products because Amway through its MIYU skincare line has brought the products here and made it specifically fit for Filipina's natural skin tone. Since its arrival on the Philippine shore, MIYU has had a strong cult following already among the Korean skincare fanatics. It sells like hotcakes from its shelves!

MIYU ambassador Krestle Deomampo

Amway Philippines recently invited Purple Plum Fairy along with other online influencers and bloggers to celebrate MIYU's first year anniversary in the country. The said event was graced by MIYU brand ambassador Krestle Deomampo who flew all the way from Davao to celebrate the said momentous occasion with us.

My Keratin Eyelash Lifting Experience at The Brow Studio PH

The Brow Studio helps you get that eyebrows on fleek

My good friend and I recently visited The Brow Studio. It's always been my go-to place for eyebrow grooming. But for this particular visit, my purpose is to accompany my friend who wanted to try the latest trend on eyebrows called microblading. I'm sure most of you are familiar with it. But for those who do not know what mircoblading is all about. Microblading is a semi-permanent tattooing technique that creates hairlike strokes to fill in the sparse or thinning brows. I would've wanted to try it out myself had I not been diabetic. Unfortunately, I was told I'm not allowed to undergo such process. This procedure is not for diabetic and those who are prone to keloidal scars.

The Brow Studio at the Uptown Parade in BGC welcomes its guests

It was my first time to visit The Brow Studio's branch in Uptown Parade in Bonifacio Global City. The Brow Studio perfectly fits the posh Uptown Parade mall with its new hues of bright canary yellow, white and black colors.

Comfy chairs during the procedure where you can lie down
My friend Merce Maata was a bit nervous at first because she had no idea if the microblading process would be painful. However, Ms. Michelle Almonte, The Brow Studio's resident aesthetic tattoo artist assured her that she will be in good hands. There's a topical anesthesia to begin with, so there's really nothing to worry about.

My friend ate Merce before the microblading procedure.

The two next photos are taken from The Brow Studio's Instagram page

Look at how happy and satisfied my friend has become after she has undergone a combination of microblading, shading and stroking in order to achieve such perfect semi-permanent makeup brows. Should you want to read Ate Merce's personal thoughts on microblading and semi permanent makeup, check out her blog here

Now, what about me? Aside from maintaining my brows, The Brow Studio also offers other services such as waxing, threading, eyelash perming and Keratin eyelash lifting among many others. While waiting for Ate Merce, I decided to avail of their Keratin Eyelash Lifting. I've previously tried their eyelash perm treatment. It was good while it lasted and I remember waking up to Disney Princess lashes back then. This time though, I wanted to see the difference between the usual eyelash perm and the Keratin eyelash lift. I got so excited just thinking about waking up again in my Minnie Mouse kind of eyelashes.
Purple Plum Fairy prior to the Keratin Lash Lifting Procedure

What exactly is Keratin Eyelash Lifting? It's an alternative to lash extensions and falsies for a curled lash effect. While some lash lifts use perm and ammonia solutions, Keratin is a keratin treatment that enhances your natural lashes by lifting the hairs and curling them.

I was born with a good amount of lashes, but they're quite straight despite being long and indecisively directed. They were boring, dead-straight and never liked to play with eyelash curlers. So when I got the opportunity to lift my lashes into a perfectly curled formation, I gave it a nod right away. I've had my eyelashes permed before so I was preparing to smell perming chemicals and the thought of putting them on my lashes. But alas, this Keratin Eyelash Lift is quite different. No watery eyes and no dizzy head. I almost doze off to sleep during the process! No kidding!

Smart Parenting Convention 2018: Where Experts Help in Raising Successful Kids

Smart Parenting Convention 2018

I love attending Smart Parenting events. Maybe it stems from my desire to become a better guardian to my nephew Kyle. I'm not biologically a mom yet, but I've been raising my teen nephew for as long as I can remember. That's why when opportunities such as the recent Smart Parenting Convention comes up, I would do everything in my power to come and attend. From parenting workshops to baby care items on sale, doulas, financial experts as well as other engaging and interesting stuff--devoted to spreading ideas, one can find inspiration for just about anything.

Booths found during the Smart Parenting Convention 2018

And yes, there are smart parenting talks/workshops where I'd find myself crying or teary-eyed within a few minutes because they usually say something profound that I've never thought of before and it touches that sensitive nurturing mother's heart of mine.

As parents, we all want to do the best for our kids, right? We want to be good parents, and we especially don't want to put more as*h*les into the world. I swear by the expertly advice and wisdom of Smart Parenting experts because they can help us do things the best way possible.

Shopwise's Big Cook Off Features Asian Fusion Dishes

Showise Araneta recently had The Big Cook Off featuring Asian Fusion

I love doing our family grocery. And when it comes to grocery shopping, I always go to Shopwise Araneta. Among all the other household chores, it is grocery shopping that I enjoy the most. I find it truly therapeutic. So why do I go at Shopwise? Aside from its proximity from where I live, I love its hassle-free services and reasonably priced items. I also love the fact that there are a few brands or products that I can find there which aren't available in other supermarkets. Their Surebuy brand is made affordable for everyone. Plus, if I'd get hungry while in the middle of my shopping, I need not go anywhere else because delis, breads, rotisserie and D-I-Y mongolian bowls are available inside the grocery area itself. All I need to do is look for a vacant seat, wait for my order and voila! I can enjoy a filling meal while I'm doing my grocery shopping at Shopwise. So for me, it is indeed wise to shop at Shopwise.

Recently, Purple Plum Fairy was invited to cover Shopwise Araneta's The Big Cook Off Asian Fusion  through the extended invitation from Mommy Bloggers Philippines which features exclusive products by means of a contest between selected bloggers versus culinary students of Apicius Culinary School.

"Get Me an AED" for CPR-ReadyPH Infomercial Launch

The stories are all too familiar – someone suffers a cardiac arrest and an AED was not on site to help revive the individual. In fact, if it had not been for what had happened to basketball hardcourt celebrity Avelino "Samboy" Lim back in 2014, perhaps the public wouldn't even be aware of its need.  While most of the developing countries require that their schools, airports, and any high-traffic places are equipped with AEDs, the Philippines still had a lot of things to make it happen. If only we had an AED available during Samboy Lim's attack, he would've been in a better health condition. It was a good thing that Basketball coach turned politician former Pampanga Rep. Yeng Guiao was present when Lim collapsed. He then had the initiative to author file a bill that's now approved and dubbed as "Samboy Lim" Law which aims to teach basic life support training in schools act in public and private schools.

When a person suffers a sudden cardiac arrest, their chance of survival decreases by 7% to 10% for each minute that passes without defibrillation. AEDs make it possible for more people to respond to a medical emergency where defibrillation is required. According to studies, 90% of the time, AEDs are able to detect a rhythm that should be defibrillated – and 95% they can detect when a rhythm should not be defibrillated. AED’s can be made part of emergency response programs that also include rapid use of 9-1-1 and prompt delivery of CPR. All three of these activities are vital to improving survival from cardiac arrest.

What is an AED?

AED First Aid tools

An automated external defibrillator (AED) is a portable device that checks a person’s heart rhythm. It can recognize a rhythm that requires shock, and if needed, send an electric shock to the heart to try to restore a normal rhythm. The AED uses voice prompts, lights and text messages to tell the rescuer the steps to take. AEDs are used to treat sudden cardiac arrest (SCA), which is a condition in which the heart suddenly and unexpectedly stops beating.
Automatic External Defibrillator (AED)
An AED is a device used to administer an electric shock through the chest wall to the heart. Built-in computers assess the patient's heart rhythm, judge whether defibrillation is needed, and then administer a shock if needed. Audible and/or visual prompts guide the user through the process.

Uni Writing Instruments opens The First Conservation Center at the Manila Ocean Park

Unbeknownst to many, the Philippines is one of the most gifted in terms of marine diversity with the number of species that one can see underwater. However, it is also very unfortunate to learn that the Philippines ranks as the third country with the most polluted oceans as we continue to contribute to the plastic dumped into the world’s oceans every year. All is not lost. There is still time to do something for the environment.

Uni Ocean Conservation Center

Personally speaking, we are happy to note that companies and brands nowadays are becoming more and more aware of the environmental problem—and in their own little ways, they are doing something to help lessen or alleviate the problem. Leading coffee brands have started using reusable cups, metal sipping straws and bamboo made tumblers. Local government units have also made city ordinances that requires citizens to bring their own eco-friendly bags each time they shop. This initiative isn’t something new for Lupel Corporation, makers of renowned Uni Writing Instruments. “We’re proud to say that Uni ballpen and writing instruments is probably the first one that has come up with a product that’s made from 75% recycled materials,” said Lupel Corporation Vice President and General manager Mitch Pellicer.

Ms. Mich Pellicer, VP Lupel Corporation and General Manager

I have had the chance to attend the annual Ocean Cleanup Summit in Subic last year. From there, I was able to learn that even in our daily lives, if we truly have this concern and care for the environment, we'd be able to do our part in making sure that the future generations will still be able to marvel at the wonders that the ocean had to offer. This same mission enables both Lupel Corporation's Uni Writing Instruments and Manila Ocean Park to join hands and work together in doing their share to help preserve and protect the environment for the future generations. Thus, they have just launched the very first conservation center at the Manila ocean Park Super Toy Collection. The said project aims to teach young kids and those kids-at-heart the value of recycling and in how they can help Mother Earth.

Ms. Armi Cortes, VP Sales and Marketing Manila Ocean Park welcomes guests

Yes, there is still hope. Only if we all try to do something in our own little way about the global garbage cans now, perhaps we can still save some legacy for the future generations. Students learned that our way of living has a great impact on the global environmental issues such as global climate change, food and water sustainability, urban development and environmental conservation, importance  of the 4 R's "reduce, reuse, recycle and recover."

World-Class Uni Ballpens
Ocean trash is a serious pollution problem that affects the health of people, wildlife and local economies.  We've had personal experience in helping cleanup the ocean. In 2014, Purple Plum Fairy along with other bloggers also tried her hand in an environmental activity where we joined a coastal cleanup drive spearheaded by a brand of soda in Coastal Road. I remember we were literally exposed and baked under the debilitating heat of the sun morning. But everyone seemed to be in a high spirit as we shoved, picked, raked and gathered the mounds after mounds of trash from that coastal area. I've began to wonder what the place used to looked like some decades ago.

SvelT'i Helps You Achieve a Better Beautiful You!

Dr. Marjorie Lalaine Salazar, one of the  resident expert doctors at SvelTí

A lot of people say that SvelT'i creates a “new you” and to an extent, they're right. However, this goes deeper than their humble work on the surface. They aim to only compliment your natural beauty. So if the "new you", as their clients suggest is not only looking younger and fresher but also boosting your confidence and self-esteem, then we call that . . .Just another typical and successful treatment at SvelT'i.

Dr. Ann Caoile is one of the doctors who will be handling your treatments

With the use of the latest technology and procedures, it is complemented with a glowing sense of inner-confidence, further enhancing your treatment. SvelT'i would want friends and family guessing why you look so good, not asking what work you’ve had done. For the past two years, SvelT’i has been creating possibilities to unlock customers'health and beauty potentials while at the same time satisfying their needs and demands. In an answer to the public's clamor, SvelT’i now offers a new set of services to further defy the limits that constrict an individual’s health and attractiveness. Starting April, the clinic has been offering the latest techniques in minimally invasive treatments- from botox, dermal fillers, non-surgical nose lifts (HIKO), platelet rich plasma (vampire face lift), mesotherapy, sclerotherapy, to thread lift. The best part? You can be assured that all procedures will be handled by expert and trained doctors themselves.

BOTOX

Say Buh-Bye to Crow's Feet with Botox

Botox is a neuromodulator that blocks the signal from the nerve to muscle, preventing the muscles to contract, hence preventing dynamic wrinkles to appear and worsen. When frown, forehead, bunny lines and crow’s feet are smoothened, an overall vitality is observed in the face.

DERMAL FILLERS

Derma filler helps for prettier peeps

Filler injections are used to smooth moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, shape facial contours and add to volume loss to aging face. It is used to heighten the nose, transform tired looking sunken under eyes to a fresher look, rejuvenate or make the lips plumper, add volume to the cheeks and even augment the chin to make it more proportion to the face.

Filler injection is a lunch time procedure which gives an instant result.

HIKO

Hiko for your nose

HIKO is a non-surgical noselift procedure that enhances the feature of the nose. It is an extremely popular procedure which gives the nose more definitive structure and lifts the nose tip. This involves inserting threads into the nose bridge and the tip. Combining nose threads and nose fillers will give you long lasting, higher and sharper nose creating the nose you've always wanted with minimal downtime.

Bulacan Agricultural Farm Tour with Outreach at Basuit Elementary School

Basuit Elementary School in San Yldefonso, Bulacan
Working with kids is a very rewarding experience; however it is not without its challenges. I have had the privilege to work with kids before when I was invited by the Department of Education-Quezon City chapter to teach features writing to public elementary school children. I loved the experience of being a teacher for a day. So when opportunity knocks where I can be with children, I could never say no to that. Recently, I found myself in Bulacan where part of the Agri-farm tour was an outreach for public school children in Basuit Elementary School in San Yldefonso.

Purple Plum Fairy with her features writing students from different QC public schools back in 2011.

Prior to the Agri-farm tour and outreach day, I was informed by one of the organizers that we needed to gather school supplies because someone has pledged to give out school bags for public school children. Of course, the kids would be needing school supplies apart from the bags itself, right? So I randomly asked friends and posted on my social media networks if there's anyone who's willing to help us, even if on a short notice. Thank God for the outpouring miracles--things seemed to fall on their right places. A former client of mine immediately messaged me and asked how many school items do I need. It took a while before she was able to deliver it to our house because of the heavy rains. But she had to shop by herself just so she would be able to donate all the school supplies I had asked from her. As if her pledge wasn't enough, she also gave out boxes of chocolate bars and lollipop candies to give out the kids.

Yes, my former client had donated all of these items!

By God's grace, another good Samaritan had messaged me, my former fellow writer at Psst.ph had also pledged boxes of crayons, pencils and papers. Woot! My good friend and fellow blogger, Dems Angeles had also made efforts to pool donations from her own network of friends. And alas, by the end of the week, we were able to pool out everything that we need and so much more. Other people also made their own donations, Ms. Jenny Sy also brought some 30 plastic envelope school supplies for the kids. Princess Amirah Shine R. Magdangal gave away 100 school bags while Ms. Cherry Castro and her family gave some umbrellas too so that kids had something to use during rainy season. Truly, God knew what we were doing were something for His glory. He made use of different people to become instrumental in making this community outreach possible.

This is what I was able to pool out from donor friends.

A school supply drive is an easy way to have a profound impact on students and their learning experience. Make school a better place for both students and teachers by the simple act of providing school supplies. Many families are struggling. With high unemployment, and more than 30 million students enrolled in the free and reduced meal programs, many parents are unable to provide the basic school supplies their children need to be effective. In addition, schools across the country are facing severe budget cuts and lack the funding to purchase necessary supplies. We can help children in school by giving them the tools they need to succeed.

Here are many great reasons to do this project, including:
  • Feel great about ensuring that children start the school year with the tools they need to succeed.
  • Help teachers by providing them with proper tools for their classrooms so they don’t have to spend money from their own pockets.
  • By providing school supplies, you are supporting students, teachers and your local schools.
