Big Ben’s Kitchen: Serving Authentic Heirloom Recipes and Comfort Food in Imus Cavite

Big Ben's Kitchen in Imus serves heirloom recipes at its finest

Only a handful of establishments maintain the stamp of food mecca in the city—you know, the kind where the food is so good that people are willing to brave Manila traffic, and sacrifice long waits for it. With the traffic continuing to worsen, this particular stamp becomes all the more prestigious. One of the simple pleasures of travel is discovering hole-in-the-wall restaurants or hunting down eateries frequented by locals.

Purple Plum Fairy is happy to stumble upon Big Ben’s Kitchen through the invitation of my good friend, history enthusiast, tour guide and fellow foodie, Rence Chan

The signage says it all: You've come to the right place, indeed!

Big Ben's Kitchen genuinely chipped walls and hard wood furniture take you back in time while the aroma of its food, laid out temptingly on their platters, will get your stomach rumbling.

When we're Faced with the Sad Realities About Life

Note: I wrote this blog entry around two or three years ago after a friend confided in me that her marriage was on the brink of falling apart.

I feel sad each time I hear stories about couples drifting apart. Coming from a broken family myself, my heart goes out to all the children within the family as they will surely be the ones to suffer. But as they say, what good would it do for both parties no longer love each other or they would just be hurting one another? A long time friend recently parted ways with her husband of 12 years. Nobody said it was easy. After all, she had made her ex-husband her whole life in the past twelve years. A long time ago, my friend had set aside her own dreams to play the role of a young wife. She became a loving homemaker and a 24/7 mom to her children. Her children make her happy.  Although it all seemed that everything had been wonderful, her life wasn't exactly a bed of roses. But she had tried her very best to make their marriage last, to keep her family intact--in fact, she had given her whole to it--leaving nothing for herself--for her children's sake. Still, it ain't just enough.

Her children's father is no longer the man she fell in love with. He became insensitive even to the needs of his own children. Sure, he used to be a good provider, but never a good father to his children. He became a gaming addict--constantly online, he's so into it to the point of forgetting his own hygiene and would often engage in petulant quarrels with either his children or his wife resulting in domestic squabbles. She hated seeing him completely immersed into online gaming that he forgets his responsibilities to his own family. She no longer knew who this man had become. And just like that, one day, he decided to leave--with his wife not knowing what to do to survive. My friend is groping in the dark to look for clues on how to get her act together and be able to stand with her own feet to raise her kids on her own.

The sad part is that their youngest daughter has leukemia--and needs monthly treatment, chemotherapy, and other medicines. He knew how much his daughter needs money. The daughter's only five years old and she's fighting for her dear life. Too bad, the father does not even seem to even care for his youngest child.

When marriages fall apart and collapse, we need to spare our dear children. No matter how much the couples hate each other, they need to talk and iron out whatever kinks it is to be at least be civil with one another, just for the sake of the kids. After all, the two of you were happy making these kids, therefore they should be together in raising them as well.

Fast forward to 2017...Unfortunately, my friend is suffering from cancer herself. She is on stage 4. The good news is that her philandering husband has been a changed man now and is seriously taking good care of his wife and their family.

You see, the lesson here is clear. Sometimes we were given things in life which we had to go through in order for us to see life in a bigger picture. Things may not happen according to our plan, but when we allow God to lead us where we should go, things will eventually fall into their proper places. And it is the magic about life...because God has a plan for each of us. Before we were born, He knew what we will all become. We just have to simply follow His plans.

I pray that whatever it is that you are going through at this time, you will be able to see the positive side of it. I know it must be difficult for most of us, (yes, that includes me. I reckon I might be suffering from high-functioning depression) But know that there is someone you can call---God loves you more than you know. I don't intend to be a ray of sunshine here, or act like some holier-than-thou, but everything shall pass. And so does your problems. Behind the clouds, the sun still shines my friend, bear that in mind.

All my prayers,

Mommy Bloggers Shared The Love To Kids In Marawi Through Nutri10Plus Syrup Vitamin Blog Campaign

During the moving up ceremony where Kaye Koo of SinagTala Foundation helped in disseminating the Nutri10Plus and DayCee vitamin pouches to the kids

One of the outstanding qualities of mothers is their devotion to providing quality nutrition to their children. This is primarily done by preparing healthy foods and giving effective supplements to sustain and nourish their growing family needs. Nutri10Plus Syrup, a multivitamins packed with Chlorella Growth Factor (CGF), Taurine, Lysine, Zinc and Vitamins C, A, D3 B1 and more, had been assisting mothers all around the Philippines in developing children with strong bodies, active brains and healthy appetite.
In the effort to help our co-mommies and their children in the war-stricken village in Marawi, 100 Mommy bloggers from Mommy Bloggers Philippines community had collaborated to bring boxes of Nutri10Plus Syrup,  DayCee Vitamin C Syrup and several toys, to a hundred kids in Marawi through SinagTala, a non-profit organization headed by Ms. Kaye Koo. SinagTala had been sending help to villages in Marawi since the war erupted and it had sheltered hundreds of children inside the Playroom which served as the mini-school and play area of the children.

Through the Nutri10Plus Syrup, DAYZINC vitamins and toys, we wish to help uplift the children’s spirits and restore their health as they start on picking up the pieces of their lives as families.

We all thank WERT for this campaign, Kaye Koo of SinagTala and all the staff who have helped in sending the vitamins to Marawi.
To learn more about the benefits of Nutri10Plus Syrup, check through their Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/Nutri10Plus/
We are grateful to the mommy bloggers who participated in campaign using their blogs to bring hundreds of pouches of Nutri10Plus Vitamins full of nutrition for the children in Marawi. Find out more about our lovely mommy bloggers and their experiences as they document their life journeys in their mommy blogs.

Meant To Beh: Vic Sotto's Metro Manila Film Festival 2017 Film Entry

The cast of MMFF 2017 Meant To Beh: JC Santos, Dawn Zulueta and Vic Sotto

Metro Manila Film Festival isn't exactly complete without a Vic Sotto-starrer. Growing up in the 80's, I'm used to seeing the ace comedian during Christmas day on the silver screen. From the fantasy "Okay ka Fairy Ko" series to the "Lastikman" superhero inspired films as well as other family-oriented films he's done, there is no doubt, Vic Sotto truly is considered an icon especially when it comes to Metro Manila Film Festival. He may not exactly come out as the greatest blockbuster film, but his films sure does well at the tills, just the same.
Now, Bossing Vic has another movie offering for all-ages.

Bossing Vuc Sotto explains what makes his movie a must-see this MMFF 2017

Bossing Vic says it is his pleasure to offer another quality film for this year's Metro Manila Film Festival. For this year, they have prepared a film called "Meant To Beh." He says he is also proud to have award-winning actress, Ms. Dawn Zulueta, as his leading lady this time. Zulueta, after all has long been semi-retired from showbiz. But she says she could not say no to Bossing Vic. This is another treat for Zulueta's fans to see her on the big screen once again after long years of hiatus.

Great Taste Muscovado Brown Coffee Mix

I'm such an avid coffee drinker so each time there's a new variant from my favorite coffee brand, I really get excited to try them. I love to drink my cup of coffee first thing in the morning because it perks me up and allows me to stay awake and energized as I do all my tasks for the day. Great Taste Coffee gives coffee aficionados like me a reason to be happy about as they introduce a new coffee variant called Great Taste Muscovado. It's a richer and creamier coffee experience which I believe any coffee drinker would be able to enjoy.

Panasonic Corporation Donates 2,550 Solar Lanterns

Despite of the advancement in both Science and Technology, it comes as a surprise to learn that 1.2 billion people worldwide still do not have access to electricity.
