Who doesn’t want to have superpowers? I’m sure everyone would love to have one. It would probably look so cool! But if that would be the case, I think this not-so-perfect world would even be more chaotic because people would take advantage and abuse their powers. If I had superpowers like Superman or even better than him, I would make sure to put them into good use. I’d like to help as many people as I possibly can. I’d help build more schools especially those that were damaged by the recent typhoons in Mindanao, with my speed power I can help build classrooms faster so that kids can have some roof under their heads when they go back to school.

I’d also find out how I could help Mindanao to gain back their source of energy as it now suffers from rotational blackout. I’d also help in giving out school supplies and books for kids especially in the highlands where kids had to walk several kilometers and literally cross mountains and rivers just to get to class. I’d want to make their lives easier by building durable bridges to lighten their burden in going to school each day.

Since I’ve superpowers, I also have the ability to read minds. I would make peace with neighboring countries like Taiwan as well as other countries claiming for Spratly Islands China and Vietnam regarding the controversies of such island. Since I could read their minds, I know exactly how to appease them, as I know what I should say and what not to say.

My ability to forsee and detect the future can also help save my country from further wrath of nature and other disasters. But in the end, I firmly believe that we don't really need any superpower to be of help or service to those in need. It all takes a little love and an open hand. We can all be heroes on our own little way, whether by simply helping an old man to cross the street or teaching a child how to tie his shoelaces. We can all become heroes if we really had that strong desire to reach out to people. We don't need a red cape in order to help save lives. The latest snack from Jack n' Jill Potato Chips Shake and Roll in Salmon Sushi Wasabi and Unagi Kabayaki flavors.

There is hardly a day that passes by that I do not get text messages or emails from friends, acquaintances or at times even from strangers, asking for recipes or where the best place to eat is. It must be my weight (I’m obese) and my “matakaw” (glutton or big appetite) reputation (my food blog’s remember?) but I believe I’m more of what we call in vernacular as ‘mahilig kumain’ (someone who loves to eat) that attract such questions.  Going back to the queries, I do not mind answering them but I hope people do realize that such simple questions are not that simple to answer. We have different taste buds. But I’d personally prefer to just chill at home eating home cooked meals or a fave snack as long as you’re in the company of family and friends. Speaking of snacks, have you guys tried the latest Jack N’ Jill Potato Chips Shake and Roll? It’s an innovative product from Universal Robina Corporation. It’s the first of its kind in the market that allows you to snack with a two-in-one pack that has a packet of potato chips and a separate one for added flavor. It comes in two exciting flavors: Salmon Sushi Wasabi and Unagi Kabayaki (barbecued squid).

The Crew as Jack n' Jill Shake and Roll Ambassadors.

Jack ‘n Jill Shake and Roll is made from premium grade potatoes that are thinly sliced for that golden, crisped chip experience in every bite. Its lightly seasoned chips are made better with the Japanese-inspired seasonings included in each pack.

So easy to eat, open, season, sealed and shake!

I’m a big wasabi fan since college. Allow me to share a little secret: wasabi flavored nuts has helped me got through Philosophy 101. My Philo class back then was in an afternoon slot that I had to use wasabi to keep me from being alert and awake during class. That’s how my love affair for anything wasabi started. So when I heard that Jack n’ Jill Shake and Roll had Salmon Sushi Wasabi flavored potato chips, I immediately tried them! Other wasabi chips I’ve tasted were too strong for my taste. I was surprised that Jack n’ Jill Shake and Roll Salmon Sushi Wasabi flavored chips was just right. One bite and I was instantly hooked! It had none of the usual wasabi flavored after-bite sting. It’s lightly flavored with just the right hint of spicy thing.

The crowd dances to its catchy  jingle

Some bloggers joined into the dance craze.

The kids and those who do not like anything spicy would certainly love Jack n’ Jill Potato Chips Shake and Roll in Unagi Kabayaki flavor. It had that perfect balance between sweet and piquant with its rich smoky taste. My Kyle loves this variant that he’s able to finish an entire pack in one sitting. You know what they say about children, right? They are the most credible, when they say that a product is good and they love it, they honestly say it. And for Jack n’ Jill Potato Chips Shake and Roll, Kyle knew exactly what he’s saying.

So whether you’ll go for Jack n’ Jill Potato Chips Shake and Roll Salmon Sushi Wasabi or Unagi Kabayaki variants, the thing is, you’re sure to have a blast snacking on both chips! For only Php35 (SRP) per pack, you’ll never go wrong with these snacks. Chill out and bond with family and friends at home while munching on these yummy Jack n’ Jill Potato Chips and experience a whole new way of snacking goodness!

Jack n’ Jill Potato Chips Shake and Roll is now available in the imported section of major supermarkets, groceries and convenience stores nationwide.

Superbook is back on GMA 7 Beginning June 1!

The phenomenal ‘80s well-loved animation based from the Holy Bible is back. Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN) brings back an all-new Superbook. Viewers will experience a one-of-a-kind journey. Starting June 1, the new Superbook will air at 7:30AM on GMA 7.  In addition, the Superbook Classic we’ve grown up with will also air episodes starting June 2 at 7:30AM also on GMA.

What has started as an animated Bible series for children in Japan is now a world-class animation production. Since its first airing in Japan, the Superbook series has now has been broadcast in over 106 countries, translated into 43 languages and has been viewed by over half a billion people.

And to further reach more people and in keeping up with the times and technology, the original series has been improved. CBN and top Hollywood producers, animators and directors put their minds together and the result: A relived, reinvented and reimagined Superbook

Our goal is not only to produce a child-friendly program, but more importantly, a child-focused show for this generation to digest. Superbook aims to capture the hearts of the children today. In addition, even parents will enjoy and learn from it. It’s the perfect bonding activity for families,” says Icko Gonzalez, Superbook project head in the Philippines. “The new Superbook is for the now generation.”

Personally, as a parent, I am excited for Superbook’s comeback on Philippine TV. I am looking forward to share with Kyle my experiences in growing up watching Superbook and Flying House. Of course, it may take sometime for Kyle to get to know the likes of Chris, Joy, Ruffles and Gizmo. Actually, when he first learned about it, he thought it might be boring since the stories are bible-based. Luckily, Kyle and I watched its few episodes last Holy Week. And it felt good to reminisce my childhood. I told Kyle I was a proud member of Super Kids Club. In fact, according to Icko Gonzalez, back in 80’s and 90’s, the Super Kids Club had around 350,000 members! I even showed Kyle my Achievers Series certificate. Yes, I still have them up to this day and age.

My own Super Kids Club certificate.

Superbook had played a huge part of my childhood. Each time I read the holy bible now, I could still recall visuals from the Superbook animation I’ve come to love and follow as a kid. Oh, how I looked forward to afternoons after siesta  (naps) because it’s the only time I’m allowed to stay ‘glued’ on TV. I’ve come to know more about Jesus and the stories from the holy bible because of Superbook. I’d want to pass on to Kyle that sense of awe in watching Superbook.

A letter I had received as a kid being a member.

Kudos to CBN, GMA and the rest of the people behind Superbook. Thank you for bringing back our beloved animation and for making it possible to share them with the new generation of kids and those kids-at-hearts.

Catch Gizmo and the Superbook guys in the future at Robinson’s Malls and for their upcoming School Tours. Don’t forget to watch Superbook on GMA 7 every Saturday (new version) and Sunday (classic) at 7:30AM. You could also log on to

Dealing with Dust Mites

There are some items lurking inside our homes that are invisible to the naked eye. Dust mites are some of the example, these are very tiny creatures that are harmful to our health especially our kids. Dust mites are not parasitic, but they have powerful allergens contained in the mites, their cast skins, fecal material and secretions that can cause allergic reactions in asthmatics and others who are allergic to their feces. Their primary food is skin scales (dander) contained in house dust. Since the greatest fallout occurs in areas of human and pet activity, the mites tend to be most numerous in beds, sofas, chairs, and carpeted areas.

Studies show that dust mites may be a factor in 50 to 80 percent of asthmatics, as well as in countless cases of eczema, hay fever and other allergic ailments. In the United Kingdom, one in 10 children and one in 12 adults suffer from asthma (source while everyone either knows or is related to someone who suffers from an allergy or eczema.

According to Mayo Clinic, dust mite allergy symptoms caused by inflammation of nasal passages include: sneezing, runny nose, itchy red watery eyes, nasal congestion, itchy nose, roof of mouth or throat, postnatal drip, cough, facial pressure and pain, frequent awakening, swollen, blue-colored skin under your eyes, in a child, frequent upward rubbing of the nose.

Here then are some tips shared by Mayo Clinic to combat this household problem.
Use allergen-proof bed covers. Cover your mattress and pillows in dust-proof or allergen-blocking covers.
Wash bedding weekly. Wash all sheets, blankets, pillowcases and bedcovers in hot water that is at least 130 F (54.4 C) to kill dust mites and remove allergens.
Keep humidity low. Maintain a relative humidity between 30 and 50 percent in your      home.
Choose bedding wisely. Avoid bedcovers that trap dust easily and are difficult to clean
Buy washable stuffed toys. Wash them often in hot water and dry thoroughly. Also, keep stuffed toys off beds.
Remove dust. Use a damp or oiled mop or rag rather than dry materials to clean up dust. This prevents dust from becoming airborne and resettling.
Cut clutter. If it collects dust, it also collects dust mites. Remove knickknacks, tabletop ornaments, books, magazines and newspapers from your bedroom.
Remove carpeting and other dust mite habitats. Carpeting provides a comfortable habitat for dust mites. If possible, replace wall-to-wall bedroom carpeting with tile, wood, linoleum or vinyl flooring.
Use Air purifiers
Air purifiers collect airborne dust in your home and can help with controlling dust if you also maintain vigorous cleaning practices.
Vacuum regularly. This is where RAYCOP, the first UVC anti-allergy vacuum plays a big role.

Raycop is the first UVC anti-allergy vacuum cleaner that kills 99 percent of bacteria and eliminates almost 94 percent of dust mites. It is especially designed to clean bed linens and other fabrics helping to create a healthier home by cleaning deep into the household fabrics, mattresses, sofas, chairs, futons, crib, pads, bed sheets, pillows and curtains.

The process of eliminating bacteria and other allergens employed by the vacuum cleaner is through its patented 3-step allergy care system. First, the vibrating pad shakes particles and dust mites away from mattresses at a whopping 3,600 times per minute (twice that in some models), making sure that even the most stubborn dust mites are removed.

This is followed by the UVC sterilization lamp that kills bacteria to leave surfaces germ-free. The lamp uses a highly efficient and effective 253.7 nanometer wavelength, the same germicidal ultraviolet wavelength used in hospitals, clinics and laboratories for almost seven decades now.
Finally, the device uses a cartridge filter that captures the larger particles and traps them so they cannot go back to the room.
Distributed by Zinven Int’l Corp., the Raycop UVC anti-allergy vacuum cleaner is available at Rustan’s department stores, S & R, Landmark, Wilcon Builders Libis, and Abenson’s department stores. For more information about Raycop product lines and its outstanding features, visit their Web site

Carlo Rossi Red Wine: Perfect For All Occasions

I personally prefer not to drink alcohol or wine. Although sometimes there's a need for me to do so, like if I get invited to events such as meeting a wine sommelier (a wine expert) or to a party, the occasion calls for me to sip a little. Studies have shown that a glass of red wine each day saves one from possible heart attack. Actually, there's nothing really wrong about drinking wine, it's just that one has to do them moderately.  I had recently tried Carlo Rossi's Sweet Red Wine.  And although I had never really been into wine tasting, my friends and I could attest of its sweet yet bold wine flavors. It perfectly goes with a cube ice along with some finger foods or cocktail foods to go with it + good conversations with the company of friends.

Emperador Distillers brings in Carlo Rossi to the Philippine market. Rossi Sweet Red Wine is the latest innovation of the Carlo Rossi brand. Made from California grapes vineyards--it comes in three flavors:  vanilla, bright cherry and wild raspberry flavors, thereby creating a unique blend of sweetness.  According to Von Torres, Managing Director of Emperador Distillers, "We wanted to create a unique blend  of flavors in our wines making them a standout with their innovative sweet taste."

A glass of Carlo Rossi's Sweet Red Wine makes a perfect 'catch-up time' with friends and is definitely perfect for all occasions. Just don't forget though to drink moderately and don't drink and drive. But clean good fun is great all the time with Carlo Rossi wines.

Are you a Superbook fan? If you're an 80's or mid-90's born, chances are you know what Superbook is all about. But for those who don't know yet, Superbook is a favorite cartoon series in the 80's, with its lead characters Chris, Joy and robot Gizmo. The cartoon series begins with a Superbook that magically brings them to the olden times in the holy bible. The kids character gets an adventure each time the Superbook transports them to the characters in the bible, they even had the chance to meet Jesus and his friends. For each story, another valuable moral lesson is learned.

I grew up watching Superbook on TV. So am so glad to know that through CBN Asia, Superbook comes to life again. In my mind, I'd like to share the experience of knowing Jesus and all the other significant key characters from the bible with the youth of today. Superbook will be launch this coming May 25 at the Robinsons Galleria Activity Center. But before that, there's still a chance for kids and their families to have their pictures taken with the lead characters of Superbook.
Would you like to see Gizmo live in action? Here’s your chance to meet and greet the super cool robot Gizmo.

Visit Superbook’s Super Photo Blast Corner in Robinsons Galleria Jumpstreet activity center from May 18 to 24 (mall hours) and experience a fun time with Gizmo and with other Superbook kids.

Pose and have your pictures taken with Gizmo and the rest of your favorite Superbook characters, watch trailers of the all –new Superbook episodes coming this June and learn more about the re-imagined Superbook.

What a perfect way to spend time with your family while at the mall! Invite your friends, too. Don’t forget the dates: May 18- 24 at the Robinson’s Galleria Jumpstreet.
