Cebuana leads the charge in Red Bull Dance Your Style 2026

After years of persistence and three hard-fought attempts, Cebu’s own Sam Rivera, known in the community as NEMESIS, has emerged as the Philippines’ top freestyle dancer, earning her place on the global stage in Los Angeles.

She claimed the 2025 Red Bull Dance Your Style Philippines National Finals crown in front of her hometown crowd, a moment she described as “a dream come true.” The win propelled her to the World Finals, where she broke into the Top 16, solidifying her position among the world’s elite freestyle dancers.

Fighting Through the Struggles

NEMESIS’ journey began in Cebu’s krump community, shaped by local battles, long training sessions, and a tight-knit dance scene. Her Red Bull Dance Your Style story unfolded over three years: Top 8 in the 2023 Cebu qualifier, a near-win at nationals in 2024, and finally, her breakthrough in 2025.

“The moment that changed me most was being in the finals last 2024. That experience made me look at myself differently — it was proof that I could win this competition because I made it as far as the finals. It humbled me, pushed me to train deeper, and made me realize that growth doesn’t always come from winning,” NEMESIS said. Each setback sharpened her discipline, pushing her to build not just strength and stamina through daily conditioning with her dance crew training, but also adaptability through freestyle labs where unpredictability became her greatest teacher.

Behind the scenes, her preparation went beyond physical exercises. NEMESIS balanced endurance training with mental conditioning, grounding herself through visualization, prayer, breathing exercises, and self-review to stay centered under pressure. That inner strength allowed her to dance with clarity and purpose, trusting instinct over pre-set moves and letting her honest emotions guide every dance battle.

“This year, the biggest difference was my mindset and maturity as a dancer. In my previous battles, I was focused on trying the experience and just enjoying it,” said NEMESIS. “This time, I came in with a goal, more self-awareness, confidence, and trust in my own style.” Her victory became the culmination of discipline, faith, and unwavering belief in her craft, strengthened by the support of family, friends, and her hometown community.

From local qualifiers to the World Finals, NEMESIS proved that Filipino dancers can stand shoulder-to- shoulder with the best. Performing in Los Angeles challenged and inspired her, reinforcing the strength of Filipino freestyle on the global stage. “The moment I heard the crowd respond to my first round and saw dancers from other countries hyping and reacting, at that moment, I truly felt that Filipino dancers don’t just belong on that stage — we can be on par with the other international dancers,” NEMESIS said about her experience during the Red Bull Dance Your Style World Finals 2025. “You don’t need to change who you are to compete globally. Your roots are your strength. The world stage rewards authenticity. If you carry your story with confidence and discipline, you belong anywhere,” she added.

“Growing up in Cebu’s krump and street dance community gave me my foundation and identity. The scene here is raw, passionate, and very family-oriented. It taught me discipline, respect for the culture, and how to express real emotion through movement,” NEMESIS shared. Her balanced mix of technique, instinct, and commanding stage presence reflects both krump culture and the heart of Red Bull Dance

Your Style’s freestyle identity. “Red Bull Philippines didn’t just create a competition; they created a platform for us dancers for growth. Through Red Bull Dance Your Style, I was exposed to different styles, cities, and high-level dancers that pushed me beyond my limits. It made me realize that my dreams are possible through their movement.”

A Symbol of Confidence and Community

As one of the few women dominating a traditionally male-led krump scene, NEMESIS has embraced the role of breaking barriers. “Being visible as a female dancer in this scene isn’t always easy, but the way Red Bull Philippines highlighted the culture and the dancers made me feel supported. That support encouraged me to step out more boldly, take opportunities I might have been afraid of before, and represent myself and other women with more openness and pride,” she explained.

“Being a woman in krump pushed me to become a dancer who’s both powerful and intentional. I embraced my own texture, emotion, and storytelling. That combination shaped a style that’s aggressive when it needs to be, but also expressive and controlled,” she said. Her presence has resonated with audiences and fellow dancers alike, highlighting how strength, femininity, and identity can coexist in freestyle battles. “When young women see me on that stage, I want them to feel like they belong there too, and it’s possible even in a male-dominated scene,” she shared. NEMESIS’ journey continues to inspire the Philippines’ tight-knit street dance community, showing how shared energy, creativity, and support can push local talent toward global recognition.

Summing up her experience being a part of Red Bull Dance Your Style, NEMESIS shared, “It’s expanded my world. More than exposure, it gave me responsibility and reach to represent my roots, my style, and my country on a global level.” NEMESIS was awarded Asian Krumper of the Year in 2025 and was nominated as Worldwide Female Krumper of the Year by FCD Awards. She credits Red Bull Dance Your Style as playing a big role in achieving these recognitions.

Opening the Floor for Red Bull Dance Your Style 2026

NEMESIS’ journey sets a new benchmark for Red Bull Dance Your Style 2026, with the competition already underway, with Titan emerging victorious in the Cebu qualifiers and Ian Paul securing the runner- up position, both earning their spots in the upcoming national finals. Bringing the next nationwide qualifier in Davao on February 21, then finally Manila in March.

“I hope my journey shows Filipinos that you don’t need to come from a big scene or have perfect resources to reach the world stage. What matters is consistency, faith, and love for dance,” she said.

“Trust your body’s instinct and enjoy your performance. Train hard, but don’t lose your love for the dance and purpose. Learn to accept losses, protect your mental health, and trust your preparation. If you stay present and true to yourself, the results will take care of themselves.”

Red Bull Dance Your Style 2026 calls on street dancers of all styles—hip-hop, popping, krump, waacking, and open choreo—to take the floor. Who will rise to represent the Philippines next? Support the next generation of Filipino dancers and follow the Red Bull Dance Your Style 2026 qualifiers across Cebu, Davao, and Manila. How to properly care for your Liver

The wrong dosage of over-the-counter painkillers and even natural supplements can be harmful to one's liver.

If you think you’re overworked, consider your liver.

Roughly the size and shape of a football and located in your upper right abdomen, just above your stomach and right kidney, the liver has over 500 (yes, 500!) critical functions, chief of which include filtering toxins, alcohol, and medicines from your blood; creating bile that aids in digestion by breaking down fats in the small intestine; and storing vitamins, minerals, and glucose, which it releases as needed into the bloodstream.

So dependable and resilient is the liver that it’s the only organ that can repair and regenerate itself when damaged or partially removed.

And yet, it has its limits too. “Generally, maintaining an unhealthy lifestyle has a direct impact on your liver,” says Angelo B. Lozada, MD of top hospital in the Philippines, Makati Medical Center (MakatiMed). “But ingesting certain substances that aren’t necessarily toxic could also do the liver harm. And like many diseases deemed ‘silent killers’ because they only present symptoms in their advanced stage, liver damage tends to go unnoticed because it shares similar symptoms with less life-threatening diseases.”

While some causes of liver damage are obvious, others may come as a surprise:

ALCOHOL is certainly top of mind when it concerns liver health. “But you don’t even have to do it in excess,” points out Dr. Lozada. “As little as 4 ounces of a hard drink can scar your liver, which eventually leads to cirrhosis, or scar tissue that replaces healthy liver tissue, thus impeding blood flow to the organ. When this happens, the liver cannot function properly.” Occasional moderate drinking is considered safe, but to protect your liver, replace alcohol with a healthier alternative. “Drinking water helps the liver flush out toxins.”

PAIN KILLERS bring instant relief to a migraine, fever, or muscle ache. “Make sure you follow the dosage recommended by your healthcare provider,” says Dr. Lozada. “While over-the-counter pain killers like paracetamol, acetaminophen, aspirin, ibuprofen, and naproxen sodium are safe and effective to use, taking too much can harm the liver.”

SUPPLEMENTS address certain nutrient deficiencies, boost athletic performance, and enhance overall well-being. But despite being labeled as “natural,” some supplements can damage the kidneys and liver. “High doses of vitamin A, for instance, are not good for the liver. Best to get it from real food like salmon, leafy green vegetables, and orange and yellow veggies,” explains Dr. Lozada.

OBESITY doesn’t just make you a candidate for heart disease, stroke, type II diabetes, and certain cancers. It can lead to fatty liver disease, or the buildup of fat in the liver. “Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease is a consequence of being overweight and developing fat around your midsection, having type II diabetes, and living sedentarily,” says Dr. Lozada. “Fix it by cutting sugary food and trans-fat from your diet, exercising regularly, and getting down to your ideal weight.”

SMOKING isn’t just bad for your lungs and heart. The numerous toxic substances in one stick alone force the liver to work overtime, causing oxidative stress that can progress to cirrhosis. Additionally, the chemicals in cigarette smoke are carcinogenic, increasing your risk for liver cancer. “There is nothing beneficial in smoking cigarettes and vaping,” says Dr. Lozada. “Quit today.”

CCP Pasinaya returns with new component and venue partners in 2026

Now on its 20th year, the CCP Pasinaya: The Open House Festival, the country’s flagship multi-arts festival organized by the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP), ushers in this year’s National Arts Month with new components and venue partners. Bannering the theme “Paglikha sa Kinabukasan,” the milestone 20th edition of CCP Pasinaya celebrates two decades of artistic collaboration, creativity, and public engagement.

Slated for February 7 and 8, 2026, the CCP Pasinaya expands to an additional regional venue in Roxas City, Capiz, adds Rizal Park Luneta as a new venue partner, Calle Wright as part of Paseo Museo and introduces a new component Paligsahan, which aims to broaden public participation and foster deeper appreciation of Philippine arts and culture.

“We are pleased to expand the festival to additional partner venues across Metro Manila and the regions, enabling wider public participation in artmaking and appreciation. As CCP Pasinaya marks its 20th edition, the festival continues to offer new experiences even for its long-standing audiences,” said CCP President Kaye C. Tinga.

Guided by the theme “Paglikha sa Kinabukasan,” this year’s CCP Pasinaya underscores the importance of engaging Filipinos—especially the youth—in shaping the future of the country’s creative landscape. By bringing the festival closer to communities nationwide, the CCP hopes to encourage broader participation and inspire future generations of artists and audiences to sustain and elevate Philippine arts and culture.

“Guided by this year’s theme, Paglikha sa Kinabukasan, CCP Pasinaya seeks to go beyond presenting art—it aims to foster a culture of active artmaking where Filipinos, especially the youth, are not just spectators but co-creators in our creative landscape. By bringing the festival closer to communities across the country, we hope to provide opportunities for meaningful engagement, spark curiosity, and nurture a generation of artists and audiences who will carry forward and reimagine the future of Philippine arts and culture,” shared CCP Artistic Director and Pasinaya Festival Director Dennis N. Marasigan.

On February 7, dive into a full day of creativity with Palihan, a workshop-all-you-can experience offering hands-on art exploration and learning. On February 8, enjoy Palabas, featuring performances of 169 participating groups, including the National Performing Arts Companies, professional performing arts groups, and individual artists, highlighting the breadth and diversity of Philippine arts on one stage.

Throughout both days, join the Paseo Museo hop-on, hop-off curatorial tours across 17 museums and galleries in Metro Manila. Select museums will also feature special performances and workshops, giving visitors an immersive and interactive art experience. Free shuttle service, provided in partnership with the Museum Foundation of the Philippines, makes it easy for participants to travel between venues. Paseo Museo also launches a walking tour of the CCP Complex led by the Heritage Collective.

Professional performing arts groups and artists participate in Palitan, a dedicated business-to- business platform designed to foster meaningful connections with Philippine embassies, arts programmers, and other key stakeholders. Through this initiative, participants gain opportunities to present their work, explore collaborations, and expand their reach both locally and internationally, strengthening the presence of Philippine arts on the global stage.

This year also marks the debut of Paligsahan, a dynamic new component of the festival featuring a wide range of exciting activities open to everyone. This new component includes the Paeksena (a cosplay competition), Paramihan (a TikTok video challenge), Paseo Museo Paunahan (a stamp rally), Pitik-Larawan (a photo contest), Sinag ng Pasinaya (a mobile 1v1 fighting game), and Vertical Shorts Competition (a short shorts film competition).

Enhancing the festive spirit of CCP Pasinaya is Pamilihan, a lively marketplace where festival goers can explore a diverse mix of food stalls, artisanal treats, and handcrafted goods, all while supporting local vendors and entrepreneurs.

Projected to attract over 50,000 attendees, CCP Pasinaya expands this year to multiple venues, including the Circuit Performing Arts Theater, Aliw Theater at the CCP Complex, Concert at the Park in Rizal Park Luneta in collaboration with the National Parks Development Committee, and the historic Metropolitan Theater in partnership with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts.

Longtime regional partners the Iloilo Museum of Contemporary Arts in Iloilo City and Tagum City return to join the celebration, reaffirming their commitment to supporting the festival’s nationwide reach. Adding to this growing network is a new regional partner venue in Roxas City, Capiz, further expanding the CCP Pasinaya’s presence and making the arts more accessible to communities across the country.

Established in 2005, CCP Pasinaya was originally envisioned as a marketing platform to provide previews of the Cultural Center of the Philippines’ upcoming productions and programs, as well as a glimpse into the performance seasons of its then-resident companies. Over time, it grew into the official kickoff event for the National Arts Month celebration.

Over the years, the festival has expanded into a dynamic hub for arts appreciation, education, and creative collaboration. It now showcases performing arts groups and artists from nearby cities and regions, whose generous participation reflects a shared commitment to nurturing and celebrating Philippine arts.

CCP Pasinaya embraces a “workshop-all-you-can, watch-all-you-can, and pay-what-you-can” approach, providing audiences with flexible ways to participate, learn, and immerse themselves in the arts. Registration is available online through the official CCP Facebook page.

Premium yet approachable: Discover a new way to enjoy wine at World Cellar

A new dimension to Araneta City's vast dining scene opens this year with World Cellar, a first-of-its- kind, one-of-a-kind wine-centric concept at World Kitchens in Gateway Mall 2. Designed to be refined but not intimidating, World Cellar brings curated wine experiences closer to more people, offering quality selections at a friendlier price point, delivering great value without compromising on experience, and encouraging guests to explore, taste, and enjoy wine on their own terms.

Instead of positioning wine solely as something reserved for celebrations, World Cellar aims to build a wine culture rooted in everyday enjoyment, with a strong focus on everyday value wines that invite regular discovery rather than rare indulgence. Its thoughtfully assembled collection of up to 4,000 bottles features labels from renowned wine regions around the globe. From classic Old World wines to expressive New World varietals, the selection is curated to appeal to both seasoned wine enthusiasts and first-time drinkers, and to invite curiosity rather than settling on a single familiar label.

The cellar space itself is anchored by expansive wine displays and a customized wine chiller system created through the collaboration of Celsius Equipment, known for crafting state-of-the-art wine cellars in Singapore, and Cellar Solutions, a Taiwan-based specialist in advanced wine storage systems. World Cellar was designed by Singapore-based AT+Co, the same firm behind the overall design of World Kitchens. Together, these expert teams shaped a setting that feels immersive, relaxed, and elegant without being exclusive.

World Cellar can accommodate more than 60 seated guests. But unlike traditional wine lounges, World Cellar extends beyond its own space. Diners anywhere within World Kitchens can order wine from World Cellar, while those who select a bottle from the cellar are free to bring it outside and pair it with dishes from any of the surrounding show kitchens. This open approach creates opportunities for multiple wine pairings across multiple cuisines (from Asian and European flavors to contemporary comfort food) and reinforces the idea that good wine belongs at every table, not just inside a wine lounge.

Guided wine tasting sessions are also being planned to encourage people to discover and experience a wide variety of wines rather than just choosing the same “safe” bottle all the time. A specially trained staff is on hand to assist with selections, making exploration easy even for those unsure of where to begin.

With its approachable philosophy, curated selections, and flexible dining integration, World Cellar introduces a more inclusive way of enjoying good wine—guided by honest prices and the belief that drinking well does not have to mean paying more.

World Cellar opens for soft launch on January 15 at World Kitchens, located at Level 4 of Gateway Mall 2 in Araneta City. For inquiries and reservations, contact +63 9189394537 or email wk.reservations.aranetagrp@gmail.com.

Fly In, Feast On: Erceflora Preps Sinulog Goers for What’s Ahead—Right at the Airport

Pinoys like to party, and there’s nothing like starting the year with one of the country’s most anticipated festivals: Sinulog. From early-morning flights to jam-packed itineraries, this Cebuano celebration draws thousands of revelers from all over the Philippines for a whirlwind of street dancing, food trips, reunions, and nonstop movement—exciting, yes, but also physically demanding.

Between travel stress, long days on your feet, and indulging in Cebu’s iconic lechon and street food, tummy troubles can easily crash the party. That’s why Erceflora steps in as the newest must-have in this year’s Cebu trip kit—helping festival-goers stay ready for all the fun, without worrying about gut problems getting in the way of the celebration.

Welcoming Festival goers the Erceflora Way

Sinulog starts the moment you land—and Erceflora is there to welcome you. As travelers arrive in Cebu, dispenser machines right at the airport invite festival-goers to grab free Erceflora samples and join in a fun activity that sets the tone for a worry-free celebration from day one.

Strike the brand’s signature “Oops” pose—just like Anne Curtis—and score Erceflora goodies to keep you Sinulog-ready. From playful photo moments to take-home samples and merch, it’s all about gearing you up to enjoy every bite, beat, and late night without worrying about gut troubles.

Simple, fun, and practical—because staying gut-ready should be as easy as planning your
Sinulog itinerary.

And the experience doesn’t stop there. On January 17, drop by the Erceflora booth at SM Seaside Cebu to learn exactly when and how to use Erceflora—before food crawls, after late nights, or in between packed Sinulog schedules. With quick tips and free samples, gut care becomes an easy, essential part of your festival game plan.

Sinulog Realities: Food, Festivities, and Overindulgence

Sinulog isn’t exactly a “light meals and early nights” kind of festival. It’s lechon at every turn, irresistible street food, and celebrations that stretch well past midnight. Delicious? Absolutely. Gentle on the stomach? Not always. Add long walks, packed schedules, and travel fatigue, and it’s no surprise tummy troubles tend to sneak in.

That’s where Erceflora comes in. It helps you against overindulgence and unexpected gut emergencies. By helping prevent and manage stomach upsets, Erceflora keeps festival goers in the moment—free to dance, eat, and hop from one food crawl to the next without interruptions. It’s why Erceflora has become a trusted probiotic staple for travel, handaan, and every moment of vulnerability in between.

Turning Fiesta Moments into Worry-Free Celebrations

Fiestas are meant to be enjoyed, not paused for stomach trouble. With Erceflora helping prevent and manage gut upsets, festival-goers can stay focused on the fun—whether that means street dancing, hopping from one food crawl to the next, or powering through a full day of celebrations.

Erceflora Probiotics with billions of 4-strain Intelli-spores is for all ages above 6 months old. It aims to aid in the enhancement of natural resistance to intestinal infections, the enhancement of intestinal ecology, the improvement of digestion, and the improvement of lactose malabsorption.

Erceflora Gut Defense helps improve digestion with 2 billion Intelli-spores—especially during routine changes or travel. Erceflora Gut Restore delivers 4 billion Intelli-spores— one mini bottle per day for 7 days from the onset of gut infection symptoms or as directed by a physician.

Sinulog isn’t just about planning your outfit or your food stops anymore—it’s about being festival-ready inside and out. With Erceflora in the mix, gut care becomes part of the prep, redefining what it means to enjoy the celebration.

More than just a freebie, Erceflora proves itself as a thoughtful, practical companion for every Cebu trip. Because the best Sinulog memories are made when you celebrate to the fullest—minus the gut setbacks.

Asia’s biggest dog show is back at the Smart Araneta Coliseum

Asia’s biggest dog show is back at the Smart Araneta Coliseum

Canines are set to take center stage at the biggest dog show in Asia — the Philippine Circuit 2026 — from January 21 to 26, 2026, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Now in its 12th year, the Philippine Circuit is organized by the Philippine Canine Club, Inc. (PCCI), a non-stock and non-profit organization dedicated to promoting love and compassion for purebred dogs. The event demonstrates PCCI’s commitment to propelling the canine experience onto the global stage.

This year’s spectacle will be headlined by the 2026 Federation Cynologique Internationale (FCI) World Grooming Competition, which will highlight the skill and artistry in dog grooming. Dogs and dog handlers from across the globe will showcase creative styling, breed-specific cuts, and technical ability.

Alongside this contest, there will be 12 All-Breed Championship Dog Shows, mediated by renowned international judges to ensure fair and healthy competition. With 7,440 entries representing 91 breeds, the Philippine Circuit 2026 continues to showcase the diversity of breeds and their unique qualities.

Dog lovers will witness lovable Pembroke Welsh Corgis, charming French Bulldogs, fluffy Pomeranians, friendly Golden Retrievers, and more, skipping around the Smart Araneta Coliseum with glee, together with their proud handlers.

Last year, an American Cocker Spaniel earned the title of Grand Champion, impressing judges with its sophistication. A Borzoi claimed Best in Show, while a Chow Chow was awarded Best in Show for Philippine-born dogs, highlighting the expertise and dedication of local breeders.

“The Philippine Circuit is more than a competition,” said Irene L. Jose, COO of Uniprom Inc. “It’s the celebration of camaraderie between humans and dogs. This event is a gathering of the dog-loving community and their love for purebred dogs.”

The event also aims to educate people about dog grooming and its critical role in canine health and hygiene. Dog grooming is essential in controlling parasites, fleas, and other infections. It also helps in the early detection of lumps, bumps, and other health problems. More than its aesthetic function, dog grooming is imperative for canines’ overall well-being.

PCCI Groomers Certification conducts seminars to professionalize dog groomers in the Philippines, ensuring they are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to deliver high-quality services.

PCCI is also a member of the FCI, an international organization of registering bodies based in Brussels, Belgium. PCCI is the only FCI-accredited registering body in the Philippines for purebred dogs.

To know more about this event and other activities of PCCI, please visit https://www.pcci.org.ph/. You may also follow them on Facebook and Instagram. To learn more about the Smart Araneta Coliseum, please visit www.smartaranetacoliseum.com.

As the celebration concluded, what remained was a shared sense of compassion and connection: a reminder that the most beautiful impact is created when a brand chooses to give back.

Haier lights Up EDSA with Paris Saint-Germain Partnership to Welcome 2026

Global home appliance brand Haier welcomed the new year by bringing the spirit of world-class football to Filipino audiences, as a New Year television commercial featuring stars of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) was showcased on a prominent EDSA billboard in Metro Manila.
The local activation forms part of Haier’s global campaign with PSG, which saw landmark outdoor screens light up across major cities worldwide on December 31, 2025. The campaign highlights the shared values of excellence, innovation, and leadership that define both Haier and one of football’s most successful clubs.
Haier became an Official Partner of Paris Saint-Germain in September 2025 through a multi-year agreement running until 2028. The partnership aims to integrate football passion into everyday life by connecting PSG’s champion mindset with Haier’s smart home technologies and user-centric innovations.
The New Year TVC, now visible to thousands of daily commuters along EDSA, features PSG players delivering a festive greeting while reinforcing a champion spirit that resonates with Filipino fans, as global football continues to grow in popularity in the Philippines.

Driven by the same pursuit of excellence seen on the pitch, Haier designs its products around people—powered by technology and proven in daily use.
